The dairy alternative market is now worth 2.09 billion and growing!

If only six percent of the U.S. population is vegan, then why are so many people purchasing milk alternatives?  A 2014 Swedish study followed more than 100,000 people for 20-30 years and reported that “good” milk drinkers were more likely to die from heart disease and cancer.  Women milk drinkers were more likely to experience fractures and hip fractures.(3)

Several news outlets suggested that consumers review these results with “caution,” but didn’t explain if that meant that consumers should continue to drink milk until more research proved otherwise, or whether they should proceed with caution because there is no evidence to support the benefits of milk.(3)

For many consumers, they have either listened to research, examined the ethics behind conventional dairy farming, or they have learned that their bodies do not tolerate the lactose in milk.  As the demand continues to rise for vegan dairy products, more and more stores are working to assure their consumers have non-dairy options on their shelves.

Select Target stores now adding Daiya vegan cheese to their growing meat and dairy alternatives!

Target has been on a mission to sell products that meet the demands of health conscious consumers.  Now, some Target stores are carrying Daiya vegan cheese.  If you visit your local Target and they do not carry Daiya, it may be time to ask.  Target stocks their shelves based on consumer demand.  When retailers hear that consumers are seeking more plant-based options, they are often willing to meet this demand.(2)

Target already carries milk and meat alternatives.  Target provides their own Simply Balanced line of meatless meats that includes teriyaki meatless chicken and mushroom miso meatless turkey!  If you are new into meat and dairy alternatives, give them a try.  You can even try to make them yourself to avoid processing, preservatives and additives.
