Soothe your skin – 3 tips for pampering your body

Did you know that your skin is your body’s largest organ? Many people neglect it, not realizing that healthy skin is just as important has the health of any other part of their body. It is, in essence, your barrier against the world around you.

Because your skin is your protection against the elements, it’s critical that you keep it healthy and happy. Here are three tips to help you pamper and protect your beautiful skin.

1. Protect your skin from too much sun

Getting adequate sunshine is important for replenishing your body with vitamin D, which is essential for bone health. Our body gets most of its vitamin D from sunlight, but it only takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes per day to meet this requirement. (1)

On the other hand, you need to make sure you protect your skin from too much sun – because too much exposure increases your risk for skin cancer, as well as aesthetic concerns, such as age spots, wrinkles, and other skin problems. (2)

Here are some tips to keep your skin safe from the risk of burning your delicate skin:

  • Stay indoors or in the shade during the sun’s strongest hours, generally between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Wear protective clothing, such as wide brimmed hats, longer sleeves, and long pants.
  • If you are in the sun, use a good sunscreen.

It is highly recommended you use one without dangerous additives and chemicals. You can find a good variety in The Raw Food World Store.

2. Exfoliate

One of the best secrets of achieving a radiant, glowing complexion for your entire body is exfoliating.

Did you know that dead skin cells can collect on top of your skin, making it dull and lifeless? Our skin cells are renewed every 30 days or so. In between that period, the surface of the skin begins collecting these dead cells, where they just sit there – waiting until the next cycle. (3)

This is where exfoliating comes in to save the day! This is a process in which you slough off the dead skin cells – leaving your skin soft, supple, and brighter.

You can use a body brush, or a special exfoliating scrub made for your skin to do this. A delightfully minty-fresh, all natural peppermint exfoliating scrub, made by Living Libations, can be found in the The Raw Food World store at this link.

Another option is to make your own at home! There are hundreds of homemade scrub recipes online.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

Last, but certainly not least, is the importance of keeping your skin properly hydrated and moisturized. Daily moisturizing is essential to keeping your skin soft and supple.

It’s not just a matter of aesthetics, either. It is a critical step in keeping your skin healthy. It not only helps your skin maintain its youthful appearance, but moisturizing the areas of your body most prone to skin cancer (face, ears, neck and chest) helps the skin to repair itself. (4)

As for choosing the right moisturizer, make sure you look for labels that say the product is hypoallergenic (less likely to cause an allergic reaction), free of unnatural and harmful chemicals, and definitely a brand that does not test on animals!

Some fabulous choices of natural, vitamin-enriched moisturizers can be found here.

Loving your skin

For your overall health, you already know how important it is to try to eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water, brush your teeth, and stay clean; but now you have the knowledge of how crucial it is to give equal attention, care and love to your skin.
