People despise warts because they’re irritating and not pleasant to have on the body. There are over 100 varieties of human papillomavirus (HPV) that exist, which cause warts on many areas of the body. (1) It is usually the result of a weakened immune system allowing a bacterial infection to enter the body through cuts, abrasions, or a tear through skin-to-skin contact. (2)

While HPV often causes warts, it is rare that HPV leads to cancer, and even more encouraging that an all-natural and effective solution is available to fight it off. Studies show that mushroom extracts are immune boosters that can eliminate HPV and reduce the incidence of cancers.

Shiitake mushrooms could potentially eliminate HPV

It appears that shiitake mushroom extract has a compound that boosts immune function and is often sold as a nutritional supplement. In a recent pilot study, ten women with HPV were given the mushroom extract. Of the ten women, three completely eliminated the virus by taking the extract daily for three months and remained clear even one month later. (3)

Two other women taking the extract noticed declining levels and plan to continue to take the substance for up to six months total. The remaining five women ceased the extract less in than three months and infections were not cleared. (3)

Judith Smith, the lead researcher, plans to have the women continue taking the extract for up to six months and is hopeful they’ll respond positively. As she says, “We’re optimistic that we truly have eradication.” (3)

Shiitake mushrooms may fight cancer

The natural substance contained in shiitake mushrooms is known to have anti-tumor benefits. Dr. Smith noted, “…a nutritional supplement to treat HPV infections would be an incredible, safe option and could easily be used to treat infections before they turn into cancer.” (4)

Shiitake mushrooms contain lentinan, a chain of polysaccharide that proves to inhibit cancer growth. According to one animal study, mice were inflicted with sarcoma and when given shiitake extract, resulted in an almost complete regression of tumors. (5)

According to more studies, shiitake mushroom extracts been discovered to increase the survival rate of cancer patients, reduce the growth of bladder cancer cells by 90% when combined with vitamin C, and can treat lung cancer. (6,7,8)

Aside from being capable of boosting immune function and fighting cancer, fresh shiitake mushrooms are rich in protein, fiber, vitamin C, B vitamins, calcium, minerals, and antioxidants. And they’re delicious too! (9)
