Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference!  This is true in the case of drinking lemon water or lemon infused water.  Many of us have done this for a while but what are the benefits of drinking lemon water?

Lemon water promotes digestion, helps alkalize the body, and boosts immunity

Let’s take a look at the big and small of it, shall we?  Plain and simple – it’s one of the few healthier trends that everyone can participate, from paleo, vegan, gluten-free, and many other diets and lifestyles. Everyone that drinks lemon water has experienced incredible benefits. (1)

By drinking lemon water, we’re giving our bodies more time to take in and process the nutrients in the foods we eat. Slowing down the absorption is good because it conserves the storage of insulin in our bodies and it helps our body get more out of the food we eat. It also offers quick absorption of certain “stripped” carbs — such as white flour, cornstarch, and corn syrup. (1)

Drinking lemon water goes beyond improving digestion

Lemon infused water is a good way to consume more vitamin C without the higher levels of sugar that may be found in other citrus fruits. They provide the same jolt of energy as citrus fruit drinks without the crash that comes from gulping a fiber-less juice. (1)

A natural drink that is loaded with electrolytes providing a burst of energy!

It’s also known for removing toxins from our bodies quicker while containing large amounts of vitamin C and antioxidants, which helps us stay healthier during cold winter months. (2) In fact, one lemon contains about 31 mg of vitamin C. (3)

Some research has shown positive skin results while drinking lemon water. It can help the skin glow, reduce red patches, control cravings, control overeating, and possibly aid in weight loss. Generally, people know the importance of drinking water, but many avoid it because they find it boring. So, by enhancing water with lemon is one way to revive your interest in the beverage. Our bodies are made up mostly of water so staying hydrated is of upmost importance! (3)

Next time you try and figure out just how many glasses of water you drank at the end of the day – perhaps you will make the next count a little bit more by adding lemon juice to your water as well!
