Dr. Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman and Dr. Robert Ullman are licensed, board certified, naturopathic physicians, who teach and practice in Edmonds, WA. (4)
Gwen is a kindergarten teacher, who initially sought homeopathic treatment for physical symptomology. Gwen described herself as a passive person, who acknowledged repressed anger, and initially denied a history of trauma but later found that her feelings of rejection were indicators of past emotional trauma.
Gwen returned one year after her initial treatment having just had her first psychotic break and was under the care of a psychiatrist. Gwen’s initial homeopathic remedies included Phosphorus to alleviate physical symptoms but also noticed relief of anxiety, fears and paranoia.
Gwen was given Phosphorus again and experienced short-term relief but three months later expressed a worsening of symptoms, including paranoia and anxiety. Gwen was then treated with Causticum 200 C, though seven weeks later she experienced a mild psychotic episode. Dr. Ullman then prescribed Zincum Metallicum 30C and 200 C, where Gwen found stability, eliminated her psychotropic medication, and even completed a two week backpacking trip. (3)
K.S. initially was concerned about weight loss when visiting the Ullman’s Clinic. During the initial interview, K.S, reported that she was currently in the middle of a psychotic episode and was currently on three different psychotropic medications. K.S. reported hearing voices, paranoia, and reoccurring thoughts about past trauma.
She was initially started on Anicardium where she found temporary relief. In the months that folledwd, K.S. experienced as worsening of symptoms and was given C. Indica and Hyoscyamus that allowed her to discontinue psychotropic medication, work part-time and enjoy her hobbies once again. (4)
Homeopathic medication has been met with skepticism but these two clients journies bring hope of a positive treatment for those diagnosed with schizophrenia.
